Bank of Ghana to Begin Digital Cedi Pilot in September
The First Deputy Governor of the BoG, Dr Maxwell Opoku-Afari has said the two-day training for Journalists for “Business Advocacy on Understanding Monetary Policy in a Post-Pandemic Era” that the Bank of Ghana (BoG) will begin a pilot of the digital cedi in a sandbox environment in September. The First Deputy Governor said the digital cedi was important to deepening digital transactions in the economy.
“Digital Currency is part of the central bank acknowledging the need for digital payment and digital delivery of financial services. By this, the Bank of Ghana will provide a platform on which we can add more value to digital transactions,” said Dr Opoku-Afari. (Source: Asaase Radio)
Hacking Tools Sold to Hack Windows (Says Microsoft)
Microsoft said an Israeli group named Candiru has created and sold a software exploit that can penetrate Windows to hack it. Technical analysis by security researchers details how Candiru’s hacking tool spread around the globe to numerous unnamed customers, where it was then used to target various civil society organizations. Evidence of the exploit recovered by Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) suggested it was deployed against users in several countries, including Iran, Lebanon, Spain, and the United Kingdom, according to the Citizen Lab report. Ghana Ranked 4th in Most Digitally Matured Nation to Receive Bulk of Data Centre Investments
Fitch Solutions “Outlook for Africa’s Data Centre Market” has revealed that among all African countries, Ghana is ranked 4th in terms of the most digitally matured and likeliest nation to receive bulk of data centre investments over the coming years. According to the report, the African telecoms market is poised to provide long-term demand for data centres as it undergoes significant technological development, and Ghana will be among the frontrunners. Chinese Regulators Send teams to Didi for Cybersecurity Review
The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) said on Friday that officials from at least seven departments sent on-site teams to conduct a cybersecurity review of ride-hailing giant Didi Global Inc (DIDI.N). The regulators include the CAC, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of State Security, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Natural Resources, State Taxation Administration, and State Administration for Market Regulation, according to the statement.
